Tasmania – Part 3 – Launceston & The East Coast
Wine, gorgeous scenery, more wine, just absolutely perfect….

Rugged and absolutely gorgeous – into the mountains of Tasmania and across to the wild West Coast – think Scotland meets the Lake District meets Snowdonia meets South Island New Zealand. Most visitors to Tasmania don’t bother making the trek West but we were so glad that we did…
Our introduction to Australia’s smallest state was the weirdest but most fascinating museum/gallery that either of us had ever visited – not what you’d expect from somewhere that is still mainly in the 1980s…
5 days was far too little time but we crammed a lot in – and even though we’d been before, on this visit we fell in love with Sydney…
Must do excursions from Sydney, yet neither of us did them when we (separately) visited Sydney in 2003. Now that wrong has been put right, and yes it was worth it!
Byron Bay because it’s supposedly unmissable and a fabulous couple of days in an unexpectedly nice place. Spoiler alert, get your hankies ready…..
A surprisingly relaxed few days in Queensland’s capital city, a beautiful sand island excursion for some wreck snorkelling, and 24 hours in Australia’s version of Blackpool…..
Our first overnight bus – hell for everyone except Steve due to his snoring. The world’s biggest sand island, dingos, kangaroos, everglades and a posh beach resort – South East Queensland has it all…
We survived a cyclone and we saw koalas in the wild so all good. It might have been nice for the sun to shine and for us to get the picture postcard gorgeous pictures of The Whitsundays, but that’d be boring wouldn’t it?
Off to the Tropical North, which was ‘enjoying’ an early bit of wet season weather excitement – but all was good for some reef, rainforest, skyline, scenic train and koala adventures….
