We loved our diving holiday on Siladen Island, North Sulawesi last year so were keen to go back and see more of the Indonesian archipelago. Bali was top of the list for our honeymoon. This time we planned three centres.

Canggu is an up and coming resort and popular with digital nomads (what Steve claims to be – an IT person who can work anywhere with an Internet connection). It has a hipster “brunch” vibe with loads of cafes where you can get your smashed avocado on sourdough toast for breakfast or any other time of day. Plenty of bars, some with music, and a long expanse of beach popular with the surfers.

Ubud is about 20 miles inland, in the mountains and rain forest, and is famous for temples, cookery schools and rice terraces. We were thinking about staying in an additional more rural location but in the end decided we would be able to see most of the sights if we did a car tour.

Of course we also had to do some diving so our third destination was Nusa Lembongan Island so arranged a private car transfer from Ubud to Samur and then caught the ferry to the island.

We thought it might be tempting fate to still be on an island offshore with a ferry to catch on the day we were due to fly back to the UK so we added one night closer to the airport at Uluwatu.
